Is CBD Right For Me?

Is CBD Right For Me

Is CBD Right For Me?

With the entire buzz about CBD, its therapeutic potentials, and a host of other factors surrounding its regulation, there seems to be a good number of questions that are left unanswered. One such question has always centered on if CBD is right for individuals who are either healthy or suffering from some type of medical condition. The recent legalization and reclassification of CBD as a Schedule V drug with other recent scientific advances has shown that CBD is gaining more grounds and popularity in the medical world, and with time, it may become one of the most used plant-based compounds in the world.

Although CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant with a long history of making people high or producing psychoactive effects, it is pertinent to note that CBD does not tamper with brain activity or make users high. It is safe for consumption and does not produce any adverse side effects. The bulk of CBD activity centers on its ability to interact with the cannabinoid receptors, and in this article, we shall discuss the potential applications of CBD and how its interaction with the cannabinoid receptors and endocannabinoid system will serve to offer you with a vast array of benefits.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) consists of a network of cannabinoids and their receptors. These cannabinoids are either secreted in the body (endocannabinoids like anandamide and 2-Arachidonoylglycerol) and Phyto-cannabinoids (plant-based cannabinoids like CBD, THC, CBC, CBG and many more). The ECS plays an important role in controlling cognitive responses such as hunger, appetite, digestion, memory, pain sensation, mood, and internal balance. The functions of the ECS explains why the use of CBD is not only restricted to when you feel ill.

The endocannabinoid system has two important receptors (CB1 and CB2), and they determine how your body responds to the presence of CBD and other cannabinoids. Although the bulk of CBD activity is concentrated on its activity with the CB2 receptors, it can also trigger the activation of the CB1 receptors, thus creating a wide range of benefits to users.

Pain relief

It is quite impossible to discuss the potential applications of CBD and the cannabinoid system without referring to pain relief. The ECS and its receptors have been identified by several scientists to play a key role in the pain circuit. CBD can trigger the release of feel-good hormones while assisting the ECS to block synaptic transmission during pain. This comes in handy in numbing the pain and keeping you safer. The role of CBD in promoting relief from chronic pains like those induced by arthritis has been widely studied.

Healing from a sports injury

One of the earliest forms of Cannabis use for medical practice was in healing battle wounds. In ancient Chinese traditional medicine, whole-plant extracts of the cannabis plant were applied directly to the affected area to promote healing and prevent infection from pathogenic microorganisms. This activity has been investigated in how CBD and other members of the cannabinoid family may play important roles in the activities of the musculoskeletal system to promote wound healing. Some scientists have also reported the use of CBD to promote fracture and bone healing.

Reducing anxiety and depression

We are always faced with different levels of activities that can increase our level of anxiety or make us depressed. This is where the mind-calming effects of CBD and other members of the cannabinoid family come into play. CBD, apart from interacting with the ECS receptors, can also interact with serotonin and GABA receptors to promote relaxation and focus. This has come in handy in assisting people in dealing with sleep-related issues and insomnia. CBD users have reported enjoying a good night’s sleep after using CBD products even though this claim is still subject to FDA approval. Some celebrities have also attested to utilizing CBD to reduce their level of anxiety and during sports.

Promoting gut health

Remember that ECS plays a critical role in appetite. This is because its receptors are directly involved in enhancing bowel movement, thereby causing a free flow of enzymes and hormones. The antimicrobial activity of CBD against pathogenic bacterial and fungal species have been widely documented by several researchers. In one of the research works, it was discovered that CBD inhibited the growth of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Anti-inflammatory activity

The activity of the CB2 receptor is directly linked to modulating immune responses, thus reducing the chances of experiencing inflammatory reactions. Since CBD interacts with the CB2 receptors, it can help in promoting immune responses, thus keeping you safe. The role of CBD in inflammation-induced diseases like Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and others, have been widely documented.

Enhancing internal balance

The accumulation of free radicals can produce an imbalance in body chemistry. CBD has been identified from research to possess an excellent antioxidant activity capable of neutralizing the harmful effect of free radicals. This activity is speculated to also play important roles in detoxifying the body.

Are there side effects?

As stated earlier, CBD is safe for consumption and can be added to your daily routines without putting you into trouble. It is legal in most regions of the world and does not produce adverse or life-threatening side effects on users. CBD does not interact directly with the cannabinoid receptors hence the non-psychoactive properties. Its ability to control or modulate the activity of the other cannabinoid via the entourage effect is very important in reducing the side effects of THC.

While CBD may not produce adverse side effects, it can interfere with the metabolism of prescription drugs, thus leading to prolonged dosage. On this note, the concomitant administration of CBD and aspirin, clobazam, theophylline, and warfarin should be avoided.

Using CBD to Optimize Recovery For Athletes

Using CBD to Optimize Recovery For Athletes

Using CBD to Optimize Recovery For Athletes

The recent removal of CBD from the World Anti-Doping Agency list of banned substances has made it one of the most widely utilized compounds for recovery during sports and athletic activity. This is due to the high level of activity exhibited by CBD on the endocannabinoid system without eliciting an adverse side effect. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is responsible for controlling cognitive activities like hunger, appetite, internal balance, pain control, and neurological activities.

CBD For Sports Injuries

Before exploring the roles of CBD in sports injury, it is important that we understand how our body responds to exercise and workouts. During exercise, our bodies are exposed to different levels of stress capable of reducing muscular functions. This stress could result from all athletic activities, including running, weight lifting and push-ups, to mention a few. The accumulation of this stress in the muscles produces damage to the muscle fibers, thus leading to pain.

After the exercise, the immune system will swing into action to repair the damaged muscular fiber; thus, helping you build bigger and stronger muscles that can adapt to your exercise regime. This constant tear and repair of muscle fibers are what makes your normal exercising routine easier and less painful. To build bigger and better muscles, athletes may be required to push themselves further by increasing the usual workload on the muscles, thus leading to frequent pain.

Apart from the usual wear and tear in the muscle fibers, complex hormonal changes, burning up of energy source and loss of fluid are also produced. Although our bodies can deal with these changes in a natural way, scientists have devised a means to promote the natural activity of the immune system and neurotransmitters to recover from workout stress.

One of the most widely identified methods is to promote sleep in athletes. This allows the brain to settle and focus on producing the right hormones and chemicals needed for total recovery. Sleep is also important for promoting internal balance and creating new energy stores. Some of the other methods have been discussed below.

Nutrition and Hydration

Water is life because it is vital for all life processes. Staying hydrated serves to keep your body balanced, thus promoting the level of recovery. There are also cases where athletes are placed on a diet like proteins to enhance the recovery process. The use of dieting comes in handy in providing the necessary nutrients for the synthesis of immune cells and muscles.

Use of CBD

CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant and can play a significant role in the control of cognitive activities like hunger and pain. These CBD products come in different strengths and concentration, which provide the right combination of chemicals to keep your body balanced and ready to recover from sports injuries.

How Does CBD Work For A Sports Injury?

CBD interacts with the CB2 receptors of the cannabinoid system to modulate activities of the immune system. Although the mechanism of activity is not quite known, it is clear that CBD may have some influence in the way the CB2 receptor functions in the body. The functions linked with the interaction between the ECS and CBD have been summarized below;

Promotes Relaxation and Sleep

CBD can trigger the release of feel-good hormones, thus promoting relaxation and sleep. Information from research shows that it can also interact with serotonin and GABA receptors to promote focus and relaxation. Taking a dose of CBD before you sleep will keep the body ready to face any activity.

Anti-inflammatory Activities

CBD possesses a good anti-inflammatory property, which serves to keep the immune system regulated. This can limit the expression of immune cells unless when needed. The anti-inflammatory activities of CBD can also come in handy in reducing the expression of inflammation-induced diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and irritable bowel syndrome.

Pain Relief

It is quite impossible to discuss the potential roles of CBD in sports without referencing its ability to trigger pain relief. CBD in interaction with the ECS receptors to stimulate the pain circuit and keep the level of pain to the barest minimum.

Internal Balance

The antioxidant activities of CBD have been widely reported by several scientists. With the activity, CBD can neutralize the harmful effects of free radicals, thus keeping your muscles safe from muscle spasms.

Reduced Anxiety

The high level of tension that builds up in the mind of the players before, during and after the game can throw them into a state of anxiety or depression as the case may be. Exerting too much pressure on the mind can reduce the total amount of CBD in circulation, thus causing the brain to be temporarily overworked, leading to anxiety. The use of CBD to optimize recovery for athletes and CBD related products can go a long way in keeping the total amount of CBD in circulation at psychological levels thus taking care of the anxiety and keeping the athlete as relaxed as possible.

Improved Level of Metabolism

CBD can promote healthy gut movement and the secretion of hormones to promote metabolic activities.

Is CBD Safe?

The use of CBD, in combination with the right dieting, can bring about effective management of sports injuries. At the time of writing this article, the use of CBD has not been linked to any adverse side effects, thus making its use completely legal. Contrary to what is obtainable in over-the-counter prescription medicine and the use of THC, CBD does not tamper with brain activity nor make you high.

Combining CBD with an excellent workout diet will go a long way in promoting your muscular strength, focus and sleep. 4 things you need to know in order to buy the best CBD Beverage

4 things you need to know in order to buy the best CBD Beverage

The CBD market has been becoming increasingly popular over this past decade and many oils and CBD products are continuously being introduced to the public by companies who are hungry to get in on the action. You are best advised to conduct research to better understand what is needed to buy the best CBD beverage.

Most recently, the market has been flooded with health beverages (e-liquids, shots, full beverages). These beverages are found to be easier to consume (ready-to-go), market with many SKUs (flavors), and less threatening for beginners to try out. However, with many health products, it’s important for us to get educated on the products we choose to consume and what to look for with differentiating these products.

What should I look out in order to buy the best CBD Beverage?

1. How much CBD is really in this beverage?

Make sure to look into the nutritional information behind the beverage. As the market is saturating with multiple competitors with the “next best thing”, transparency is an important value for these CBD companies to have when marketing their product.

Where the CBD comes from should be your highest priority as “some companies use CBD from overseas sources with lower purity standards” in order to find the cheapest source. Although in the US, there are many quality assurance checks for CBD products, many companies could potentially have loopholes with their CBD dosage per beverage. An example of this could be the dilution of their beverage, thereby having a lower efficacy rate per beverage.

The Vivazen CBD shot contains 50 mg per shot and each batch has been individually lab-tested 3 times in a GMP compliant facility, with ethically sourced ingredients. By producing a unique proprietary Oil-based Full Spectrum HEMP Extract, we also ensure that every bottle contains FDA & USDA compliant ingredients and contains the listed amount of CBD and no traceable THC. We take pride in transparency with our sustainable sources and manufacturing – we post our test results on our website (accessible by your bottle’s QR code).

2. Are there different kinds of CBD? What’s the most effective?

The short answer is yes. There are multiple strands of Cannabinoids but the most popular ones are CBD and THC. During your research, you’ll read phrases such as “Full-Spectrum” and “Isolate”. What’s important for you as a consumer is to understand the difference in both and what they offer.

Full Spectrum VS Isolate

CBD Isolate solely contains CBD. It’s considered “purified and isolated Cannabidiol taken from the hemp plant to remove the other cannabinoids.” Due to this process, CBD Isolate is guaranteed to be THC free, therefore a non-psycho active ingredient to use. CBD mainly acts on serotonin receptors and has been tested as an effective source of relief to many health problems.

Full Spectrum CBD contains all the cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis plant in nature, rather than just CBD. More recently, Full Spectrum has been tested more frequently, thereby resulting in what scientists describe an “entourage effect”. The entourage effect “refers to the increased effectiveness of these products due to the different cannabinoids working synergistically”. Due to this, Full-Spectrum has been proven to be more effective with a lower dosage than CBD-isolate. More benefits include containing “vitamins such as A, C, E and B, essential fats such as Omega 3 and 6, and 20 kinds of amino acids”.

We need to qualify the Hemp Cannabis plant – not the Marijuana Cannabis plant. Also each Hemp plant has a unique mix of cannabinoids, so depending on the grower and the plant strain ( most often proprietary) they use, the mix of cannabinoids will be unique.

3. Vivazen CBD is made from Full Spectrum Hemp oil.

The trace amounts of terpenes in the Vivazen formula create an entourage effect to assist in pain relief. Cannabinoid testing includes both CBD and THC levels to ensure our formula is well below the legal threshold of 0.3% THC. The Vivazen formula contains 0% THC.

CBD made from full spectrum Hemp oil is an imporant consideration to buy the best cbd beverage.

4. A Sprinkle of Sugar? Additives? Color? Is it all-natural?

Looking at the nutritional information for the other ingredients within the beverage is just as important as the CBD ingredient itself. Many companies tend to dilute their products with varying amounts of sugar, additives and different colors to help market the taste of the product.

The Vivazen CBD shot contains no sugar, additives or colors. The hemp oil used is halaal, kosher, and FDA & USDA compliant, Vegan & Gluten-Free. Vivazen strives to bring quality ingredients, knowing that consumers want the highest grade for their health.

How to add CBD into your daily routine

Add CBD Into Your Daily Routine

CBD has been a source of relief for people who suffer from different kinds of debilitating conditions such as MS. Epidolex is the only CBD treatment (for seizure / epilepsy) with clinical trials approved by the FDA. However, as more research sprouts discussing the benefits of adding CBD into your daily routine, many people have been incorporating CBD into their daily lives , in order to relieve stress, add balance into their lives, and combat any slight mood changes.

Here are some ways where you can incorporate CBD into your daily routine:

  1. Add it to your morning routine
Whether you’re on the go or enjoying a slower start to the morning, you can incorporate CBD into your morning routine such as adding it to your smoothies. In the efforts to create a mindful start to your morning, adding a smaller dosage of CBD to any of your regular beverages may be incredibly helpful as it adds its various range of benefits to your drink. For example, it can provide alertness, a calming effect, and can be mood-lifting.

Vivazen CBD shots are ready-to-drink bottles with a nano-emulsified hemp-extracted full-spectrum HEMP extract. By using nanotechnology, this means faster absorption and higher bioavailability compared to the standard CBD oil ingestion.

  2. Take pre or post-workout
While daily exercise and having an active lifestyle are highly recommended by health professionals, added stress and athletic exercises can challenge our bodies in terms of adding pains and aches. Pain management is a large part of destressing as well as continuing to maintain that active lifestyle. Therefore, it’s important to find alternative methods to help one’s body learn to relax after strenuous activity.

By adding CBD into your daily routine, before or after workouts, some benefits can include relief from joint stiffness, muscle soreness, inflammation, and overall fatigue. It’s worth mentioning that everyone reacts differently and dosage is important when trying out any all-natural methods. If you are serious about using CBD as a regular aid in pain management in your active lifestyle, it’s best to start out with a small dosage and consult with a health professional. Much like your workouts, do what makes you feel comfortable. It’s your body.

  3. Use for sleep
Try incorporating CBD into your sleep hygiene. According to Radius Global Market Research, 51% of those aged 18-34 have said they use CBD mainly for sleeping. Due to our long workdays, early wake-up calls, and daily stress, it seems like more people are encountering sleep troubles.

As opposed to taking different kinds of medication, taking an all-natural method can be an alternative solution to your sleep problems. With the right dosage and formula, CBD can be an effective way to curb anxiety, increase sleep REM cycles, and treat insomnia and stress.  By adding CBD into your daily routine, try taking CBD an hour before bedtime with a cup of warm non-caffeinated tea. Many users have spoken of feeling refreshed and rested after taking CBD as a natural holistic solution.

  4. Relaxation & Self-Care
For those who would like to unload the mounted stress after work or simply try to focus on the present, CBD may be a powerful way of doing so. “One of the most noticeable effects that many people report is a pleasant and noticeable lift in mood and a deep feeling of relaxation”. Whether you take it in your tea and snuggle up at home with a book or on your way to yoga, a massage, or to meet your friends, CBD can be the icing added on top of your self-care routine.

Vivazen CBD shots are the absolute blend of Full-spectrum Hemp extract – perfect as the kickstart to your day or the calm before bed. If you do try to incorporate CBD, we highly recommend you do your research on where you purchase your CBD products as well as try a couple of different ways/when to use CBD. Every body is different and will react differently to the blend you take.

CBD for chronic pain management

CBD For Pain

CBD for chronic pain management is a reality for for many people. While CBD is a relatively new idea in modern medicine, the first documented use of cannabis-derived medicine dates back to 2737 BC when Chinese Emperor Sheng Nung used a cannabis-infused tea to aid with a variety of ailments including memory, malariarheumatism, and gout.

Queen Victoria is believed to have used CBD to alleviate menstrual cramps during her reign.

How CBD for chronic pain management works.

Many plants contain cannabinoids, but people most commonly link them to cannabis. CBD is one of more than 120 compounds called cannabinoids Unlike other cannabinoids — such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) — CBD does not produce a euphoric “high” or psychoactive effect. This is because CBD does not affect the same receptors as THC.

The human body has an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that receives and translates signals from cannabinoids. It produces some cannabinoids of its own, which are called endocannabinoids. The ECS helps to regulate functions such as sleep, immune-system responses and pain. This is the same reason why many people use Vivazen CBD for chronic pain management.

When THC enters the body, it produces a “high” feeling by affecting the brain’s endocannabinoid receptors. This activates the brain’s reward system, producing pleasure chemicals such as dopamine.

CBD does not make you ‘high’.

A common misconception of CBD is that it is the same as cannabis and gives you a ‘high’ feeling. CBD is an entirely different compound from THC, and its effects are very complex. It is not psychoactive, meaning it does not produce a “high” or change a person’s state of mind, but it influences the body to use its own endocannabinoids more effectively.

According to one studyTrusted Source posted to Neurotherapeutics, this is because CBD itself does very little to the ECS. Instead, it activates or inhibits other compounds in the endocannabinoid system. For example, CBD stops the body from absorbing anandamide, a compound associated with regulating pain. So, increased levels of anandamide in the bloodstream may reduce the amount of pain a person feels.

Cannabidiol may also limit inflammation in the brain and nervous system, which may benefit people experiencing pain, insomnia, and certain immune-system responses.

CBD shows a lot of potential for pain relief. Anecdotal evidence suggests that it can be used to help manage chronic pain in many cases. CBD is especially promising due to its lack of intoxicating effects and a possible lower potential for side effects than many other pain medications.

Is CBD beneficial for Menopause?

CBD Beneficial for Menopause

While are an incredible number of complicated process, it is amazing how our bodies keep everything running smoothly, day in and day out. But as out bodies age, change is inevitable.

One of those changes, menopause, is something that most women have to deal with at some point in their lifetime. Menopause has a few uncomfortable symptoms such as mood swings, disrupted sleep, night sweats and hot flashes. Luckily, with new research, CBD has become a great solution to help women deal with menopause symptoms as comfortably as possible.

With CBD beneficial for menopause, let’s look at how it works.

There is growing interest in using CBD to help relieve menopause symptoms. Why? Well, CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system in our bodies. This system plays an important role in a variety of bodily functions, including mood regulation, pain, sleep, immune functions, and reproduction and fertility.

Menopause also impacts many of these functions and seems to disrupt the functionality of the endocannabinoid system in general.

One possibility is that CBD could be used to help regulate the system in the face of the changes caused by menopause and relieve some of the more irritating symptoms.

Mood Swings

Menopause is notorious for causing mood swings, including depression and anxiety, during menopause. That happens because progesterone and estrogen impact the neurotransmitters in the brain, including serotonin.

CBD can help by activating serotonin receptors to help counteract this issue. This, in turn, could result in more even moods and less emotional flux.

Night Sweats and Hot Flashes

Night sweats and hot flashes are perhaps some of the more well-known symptoms of menopause. These symptoms can really cause a lot of discomfort in the life of the people suffering with them and make even the smallest of temperature changes into a misery.

CBD can help counteract this issue by interacting with the body’s serotonin system. This might still be an idea based on anecdotal experiences  particular but it’s certainly worth a try.

Poor Sleep

Having a poor nights sleep isn’t much fun. Thanks to all of the issues that menopause triggers, like depression, night sweat, and joint pain, it can be difficult to get a good night’s sleep. This is a real issue because a lack of sleep can actually the severity of these symtpoms and make life with menopause harder than it already is.

The good news though is that CBD has been shown to help improve sleep quality and make it easier to stay asleep and to fall asleep. If you are struggling to get a good nights sleep during menopause, CBD might be just what the doctor ordered.

Menopause is a natural biological change, so it shouldn’t be surprising that there are natural ways to help with the symptoms. With CBD beneficial for menopause, it can help relieve many of the more common symptoms of menopause and help women get on with their days.

CBD — what we know and why it works so well

Vivazen CBD

Cannabidiol (CBD) has become the popular health supplement. You have probably see in as a booster to add to your post-workout smoothie or morning coffee. But why is CBD so popular all of a sudden? After all it has been used for thousands of years as a natural health supplement and pain relief. So let’s explore CBD what we know and why it works so well.

CBD What We Know

How is cannabidiol different from marijuana?

CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a “high.” According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

CBD Is Different Than Marijuana

CBD is the second most common of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a “high.” According to the the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

CBD Health Benefits – Evidence

CBD has been shown to be helpful for a wide variety of health issues, but the strongest scientific evidence is for its effectiveness in treating childhood epilepsy syndromes, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), which typically don’t respond to antiseizure medications. In numerous studies, CBD was able to reduce the number of seizures, and in some cases it was able to stop them altogether. Videos of the effects of CBD on these children and their seizures are readily available on the Internet for viewing. Recently the FDA approved the first ever cannabis-derived medicine for these conditions, Epidiolex, which contains CBD.

CBD is commonly used to manage anxiety and stress related symptoms, and for patients who suffer through insomnia, studies suggest that CBD may help with both falling asleep and staying asleep.

CBD may be an option for treating different types of chronic pain. A study from the European Journal of Pain showed, using an animal model, CBD applied on the skin could help lower pain and inflammation due to arthritis. Another study demonstrated the mechanism by which CBD inhibits inflammatory and neuropathic pain, two of the most difficult types of chronic pain to treat. More study in humans is needed in this area to substantiate the claims of CBD proponents about pain control.

Is CBD Safe? Yes It Is.

Just like any medication, every person reacts differently. In some cases rare side effects of CBD include nausea, fatigue and irritability. CBD can increase the level in your blood of the blood thinner coumadin, and it can raise levels of certain other medications in your blood by the exact same mechanism that grapefruit juice does. A significant safety concern with CBD is that it is primarily marketed and sold as a supplement, not a medication. Currently, the FDA does not regulate the safety and purity of dietary supplements. Just like any medication or supplement, check with your doctor and see CBD is right for you.

Survey finds 22% of consumers replace OTC and prescription drugs with CBD

CBD Replaces Prescription Drugs

Since the 2018 passage of the Farm Bill, CBD has reached the forefront of American thought as an alternative health and wellness supplement, and research finds that a growing number of consumers are using CBD to replace their prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. A national January 2019 Consumer Reports survey of more than 4,000 CBD consumers found that nearly a quarter used CBD to replace OTC drugs such as Tylenol and prescription drugs, including opioids, anti-anxiety medications and sleep aids.

Approximately half of survey respondents who took CBD were not taking medication when they started using CBD, while 30% used it to supplement their regular medications.
The remaining 22% of consumers used CBD to replace their OTC and prescription medications entirely.

The survey results were presented by Consumer Reports Deputy Editor Lisa Gill at a public hearing held by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in late May. The hearing was part of the organization’s efforts to gain understanding about the safety, manufacturing, product quality, marketing, labeling and sale of products containing cannabis and cannabis-derived compounds, including CBD.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has extended the public comment period to obtain scientific data and information until July 16.

Here’s what else you need to know about the survey:

  • Consumers said they purchase CBD from cannabis dispensaries (40% of survey respondents), a retail store (34%), online retailers (27%) and other unspecified outlets (12%).
  • The most popular forms were infused edibles, including both food and beverages (35%), drops or sprays (30%) and vaping devices (30%).
  • The survey found differences in CBD use among millennials and baby boomers, with millennials more likely to use CBD to reduce stress and anxiety (32% of millennial respondents versus 12% of baby boomers), with boomers more likely to use CBD to help with joint pain (42% versus 15%).

CBD effective in treating heroin addiction

Mountain Hiking

Is CBD effective in treating heroin addiction? Cannabidiol, the non-psychoactive ingredient in hemp and marijuana, could treat opioid addiction, a new study says. Given to patients with heroin addiction, cannabidiol, also known as CBD, reduced their cravings for the illicit drug as well as their levels of anxiety.

“The intense craving is what drives the drug use,” said Yasmin Hurd, the lead researcher on the study and director of the Addiction Institute of Mount Sinai. “If we can have the medications that can dampen that [craving], that can greatly reduce the chance of relapse and overdose risk.”

The available medications for opioid addiction, such as buprenorphine and methadone, act in a similar way, curbing cravings. But they are still not widely used. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, just one-third of US patients with opioid dependence in private treatment centers actually receive these kinds of medications. According to the 2016 surgeon general’s report on addiction, only 1 in 5 people who needed treatment for opioid use disorders was receiving any sort of therapy.

CBD oil has approved medical uses in Georgia

Georgia Capitol Building

Gov. Brian Kemp on Friday signed a bill into law that allows Georgia farmers to grow hemp, CBD is approved in Georgia. The crop is the source of products ranging from rope to soap to CBD oil.

Kemp had already signed a separate bill that allows medical marijuana, a stronger derivative, to be grown with some limitations in the state. With these developments, medical marijuana and hemp will soon crop up on Georgia farms. At the same time, CBD oil is a suddenly ubiquitous trend, showing up even on Atlanta menus.

Allen Peake is a former Georgia State Representative who pioneered much of the legislation regarding hemp and CBD. He joined On Second Thought from GPB’s studio in Macon to talk about the development of the legal and medical uses of marijuana derivatives in the state. Lia Picard, a journalist who recently wrote about the growing social trends of CBD oil for Atlanta Magazine, also joined the conversation.

CBD Approved In Georgia – What Does The New Law Mean?

Georgia’s medical marijuana law allows certain qualified persons to legally possess up to 20 fluid ounces of “low THC oil,” which is derived from the marijuana plant. It authorizes the Georgia Department of Public Health to issue a “Low THC Oil Registry Card” to qualified persons, which will prove that they are authorized to have the oil and protect them from arrest.

How does Georgia’s law compare to laws in other states which have adopted medical marijuana?

Georgia’s law is much more limited than some other states’ medical marijuana laws. For example, it does not legalize the sale or possession of marijuana in leaf form and it does not authorize the production or sale of food products infused with low THC oil or the ingestion of low THC oil through vapor. It does not authorize physicians to prescribe marijuana for medical use. It is intended solely to protect qualified persons from criminal prosecution for possessing low THC oil for medicinal purposes.
